Question Cambelt not running straight - 04 LPT

Afternoon guys, come into posession of a lovely 2.5t facelift, however, upon initial servicing before use, I have found that the cambelt is not running straight and that my tensioner squeeks when cold, I have also learned that the tensioner is sitting in the "HOT" position, when the engine is in fact cold.

Cambelt was done at reccomended interval and vehicle is on 149k.

I will upload a video, just trying to get it onto my laptop, anybody have any suggestions? Dont want to tax and drive it like this, although the previous owner was using it daily.

Thanks alot.

I'd take it off and check the whole timing/aux area belts and pulleys.
Some people's idea of a belt change is literally that...... just the belt and if they can't even set the tensioner correctly, I'd want to be sure of the whole job for my own peace of mind.

Some of these cars have a rubber insert in the crank pulley which can deteriorate. The crank pulley wobbles.

Weakest links are tensioner and idler pulley....

New kit is only way to solve this issue, obviously someone negated to change one or both of these at belt change time.

Who did belt change?

Water pump is bullet proof up to a point, but id change that also.

There's a definite pulley squeak and I think my money is on the timing idler but go through the lot with a fine toothed comb.
I know it's a petrol but is that belt too slim also?

Have you got info on exactly what was fitted and which makes of component?

Yes, might aswell do the lot, makes sense.

Found a Eurocarparts reciept January 2012 for a CT979K1

No reciept for fitment, (probably done by some divvy in a shed)

Going by the MOT's it was done around 90-91K miles.

Seems to be a Contitech cambelt kit, no wonder its ready to fail after 50k.

Absoloute crap. New Gates kit is in the pipeline!
