Default What should i have my first service.

Hi all, I've just passed the 10,000 mark on my S90 and after reading the Volvo website I was a bit confused. I first read that the first service should be either 12,500 miles or a year, whichever comes first. However when I went to book online the service that pops up for my car is 18,000 or first year! I believe that came up at £305. I thought i'd ask the knowledgeable people here first before making the plunge.

After one year or 18k miles which ever comes sooner, in most cases it will be anually unless you are dojng mega mileage.

£305 sounds steep to me, I would make a couple of calls to a few dealers if I were you.

Depends where- it sounds like a bargain compared to what dealers charge in France.. I paid just under €600 for my first service- oil and filters..

18k may be the 'ideal world' service (but the oil will be seriously flagging at thar point) and a lower 'intense use' 'city/town use' 'urban use' 'stop-start use' etc interval will be noted somewhere. 12500/12 month is a sensible interval which will be nothing other than beneficial to the car.
If its a 1.6 diesel, that might explain things, you cannot do 18k oci with those, Psa who make those engines specify 12k max 'ideal' and 10k max 'intense' intervals as the engines suffer greatly with oxidisation and deposits, thus must be kept clinically clean to avoid the widely experienced problems these engines can develop which are mostly down to the oil getting mullered.

18000 miles or one year service intervals are absolutely fine and have been for the last 15 years with no problems at all providing the specified oil is used ,, The 18000 mile old oil is still flowing fine like water when drained when it is hot, no sludge whatsoever , and always the inside of the oil filter housing is as clean as it was when new .. The filters come out very much like new except black , no sludge , volvo and Castrol work together on Engine development, Use the very best oil as you can tell by the price ! They know what they are doing more than anyone on here .
please don't worry people un-necessarily .

The stories about the 1.6 diesel clogging up is true I've seen it on the citroen engines , in an adjoining garage ,a mass of tar inside some of them , due to poor servicing of their vans and cars However very rare on the volvo versions , which tend to be serviced properly ..

Just had 30.000 km service done yesterday. 560€ here in Denmark. My dad's V70 had the same in May, with the exact same price. I asked the dealer, and apparently Volvo quote fixed price for the different services. My service included the service according the the service schedule, full software update, cleaning, washing, oil change, oil and cabin air filter etc.

This makes my 5 year service package an absolute bargain...

I’ve been quoted £265 for my first service on the V90 - there is an official tool for the price of Volvo services: https://www.volvocars.com/uk/own/mai...rice-indicator

I disagree totally. My 2012 oil goes in and stays clean for a couple of thousand miles. It then goes black and at 6 or 7k is not clean at all.

I pay 70 quid for genuine Volvo oil and filter and can’t believe anyone would wait 18,000 miles rather than spend 1 hour and 70 quid. I think the oil at that point will be saturated and that the fresh oil would be dirty and contaminated in few hundred miles.

18k for me is ok if you intend to keep the car 3 years or stick 80k on it. I doubt you would get 250k out of a diesel with 18,000 mile services.
