Default Type of coolant

Hello,

What kind of coolant I can use to renewal in my S60, 2004 year, engine: B5244S. Which will be the best of all? Castrol, K2 Kuler, Mannol? Which specification I can use: G11, G12(+, ++), G13? I want to drain the old fluid and then fill with new 8 litres coolant. What are Yours experiences?

Thank You very much for all advices

The easiest thing to do is buy Volvo blue coolant from the dealership.
It also bore the name "G48". The G names come from Glysatin, a German manufacturer.

Volvo changed to a pale green fluid later on. For that I'd go to Volvo. For the few farthings more, you get the proper stuff.

Do remember to use distilled water. Friends went "rebel" on me and used their very hard tap water for their cooling systems and it clouded up.

How many miles are on your vehicle?

I found a Glisantin product catalogue that recommends Glysantin G64 (green) for all Volvo models. Below is the link:

https://www.glysantin.de/sites/defau...df?1649238705=

I currently have the green one poured in, it was poured by the first owner in Germany. Unfortunately in Poland I cannot find Glysantin G64 anywhere, neither ready-made coolant nor concentrate. There is a concentrate at one distributor, but the smallest amount that needs to be ordered is 60 L.

Glysantin 48 is widely available in Poland, I can buy it. My question is, are you sure the car will not be harmed by another type of fluid?

My car has 245 000 km. Thank's for answer, help

You can safely use any coolant in these motors, provided you don't mix types and the cooling system properly flushed between different types.

1) Buying some genuine Volvo coolant online might be the easiest and cheapest thing to do.

2) HOAT coolant chemistry was updated by adding Si + P (Silicates + Phosphorous). G64 is a Si-HOAT (like G-05, 40 and 48).

3) Go here for a better feel of this stuff: https://bobistheoilguy.com/forums/th.../#post-4999542

4) I did some reading before posting this response and one thing one fellow said was interesting. He said get a coolant with Silicates and another with Phosphorous (Mercedes and Porsche?) and mix them. There'd be no mixing problem as the basic chemistry is the same and you'd just be adding another salt.

Now who wants to do that? I would have no problem with it but I'm nuts. This is where ordering your single jug of concentrate comes to the rescue.

5) Can you order stuff online in Poland?

6) I have the same engine as you with 200Kkm and plan on refreshing my coolant with G-48 (good old blue Volvo, Saab, European).

Why? Because the engine we have was around for years and did fine with G-48.
Volvo's decision to update its coolant likely included covering future engine designs which may include differing metals.

You're stuck with the choice of ordering some G-64 from somewhere or following the advice of a crazy man (me).

Would be very interested to know where you buy your genuine Volvo coolant online that is cheaper than any suitable aftermarket coolant?

If you go to FRF Volvo, Eastbourne Volvo (they have an online eBay shop) etc you will buy genuine wipers, oil, filters and service items generally for cheaper than Mann, Bosch and such brands. About 80% of the time.

Ocasionally 10-20% of the time they are orders of magnitude more and I find they generally own up and say from the outset you should buy pattern.

I believe that I have run my 2012 xc for pattern parts money and have over 5 years and 60,000 miles only bought 3 or 4 parts pattern as they were very costly from Volvo.

You may very well be supprised at how big Volvo discount their spares etc.

Even my local dealer knocks a lot of.

I was factoring in the speed with which parts can be obtained....the delay and (apparent) scarcity of the OP's coolant selection...and the burden of having to order 60l of the stuff.

Even as a penniless teenager (I lie, as I didn't own a car until I was 23) I realized there are times when a bird in the hand......
