Default Transmission fluid

My 2001 V70 gearbox is not as smooth as it should be, especially when it gets hot sat stop starting in traffic. The colour of the fluid when I checked is a horrible brown colour so I'm hoping to do a drain and fill tomorrow. I've been looking at the recommended fluids, Toyota type iv, Mobil 3309, etc but they're hard to get hold of and expensive. I've found Euro Car Parts sell an ATF that it claims is Toyota type iv and Volvo equivalent, Triple QX ATF Plus. It's cheaper and easier to get hold of than the others I mentioned, especially as I have a 30% discount code so I can get it for around £30. I was just wondering if anyone else has used this and if indeed it is compatible with a 2001 V70 automatic gearbox?

Can't comment about that particular product, but I'd want to see the spec. JWS 3309 listed on it; check the back of the can carefully. This is a specification that the fluid meets, rather than just a car manufacturer's code, and is essential for these gearboxes.

Many of us find that Carlube ATF-U is about the cheapest stuff available, and you can even get it at B&Q: http://www.gsfcarparts.com/980aa0471

Hello, Post #18 of this thread: http://www.volvoforums.org.uk/showth...=199266&page=2

is all you need to know. The above thread is full of wacky references (sausages!) because this topic has been gone over a lot.

Petro-Canada makes a synthetic Universal which is exported to you.
The Car-Lube stuff mentioned in the thread is working fine for people.

I just replaced a filter and fluid in a 2003 Chevy yesterday and the Valvoline MaxLife Synthetic ATF meets the T-IV designation.

Honestly, the industry wanted to get conflicting solvents out of its mixes but always wants to be paid for its "sacred names". Mobil's JWS 3309 is rarely found. Toyota T-IV is the same stuff. etc. etc.

Get the bad stuff out of your unit quickly. Kira

Default What ATF FLUID

i have used this particular ATF, its cost effective very good quality.

It exceeds Mobil 1 spec, and Toyotas ATF fluids.

I have personel knowledge and would never use any other fluid in a auto gear box.. It exceeds the maximum requirements set out by Mercedes , Bmw, etc etc.

data as follows.

This is a copy of the data sheet I was sent, is this the sheet you have been reading.

DURADRIVE TM MV SYNTHETIC AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION FLUID MULTI-VEHICLE ATF
Introduction
Petro-Canada DuraDriveTM MV Synthetic Automatic Transmission Fluid (ATF) is our best multi-vehicle ATF. This full synthetic formulation offers true multivehicle performance, outstanding wear protection, and exceptional fluid life. DuraDrive MV Synthetic provides the frictional properties, wear protection and viscometrics needed by most major North American, Asian, and European automatic transmissions. It is specially formulated to provide consistent shift feel and transmission protection over a long fluid life. DuraDrive MV Synthetic’s benefits include excellent oxidation and shear stability, outstanding wear protection, and exceptional low temperature fluidity. It also provides industry leading anti-shudder durability (ASD) and frictional stability; exceeding the performance of many genuine OEM fluids.
DuraDrive MV Synthetic ATF uses Petro-Canada’s 99.9% pure, crystal clear PURITYTM VHVI synthetic base oils. Used in combination with leading edge additive technology this allows DuraDrive MV Synthetic to retain its “fresh oil” properties longer, thereby delivering superior performance and superior savings. DuraDrive MV Synthetic also provides savings through inventory consolidation by offering true multi-vehicle performance.
Features and Benefits
• Excellent resistance to oxidative and thermal breakdown
• Prevents corrosion and the formation of harmful sludge and deposits. Keeps transmissions clean & functioning properly

I've gone ahead and bought the Triple QX from Euro Car Parts. I checked the label first and made sure it met the JWS3309 requirement and it does. It should be £45 but with a 30% discount it was great value at £32. I've included images below of the labels so that anyone else can check this out before buying and if you want the 30% discount, order online and at the checkout use the voucher code LASTCHANCE30, it's valid for another 2 weeks. You can actually use the code on anything from Euro Car Parts, I hope someone will find the code useful.

I'm sure you have read the other posts on this, but just to say you need a suitable funnel to fit the dipstick tube to get the fluid back in. I think it is 10mm.

Hello again,

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...350_em_1p_7_ti

I post this link so everyone can at least SEE a bottle of Mobil 3309 before we die.
Long ago I bought a case of Mobil 3309 after stumbling upon it while traveling. The shop ordered it by mistake.
Personally, I opt for the newer synthetic fluids. Mobil 3309 is not synthetic.
I prefer any synthetic fluid.

The Triple QX and Duradrive are among the many new formulae which meet the 3309/T-IV specs. Use 'em with confidence.

Any of the older Dex/Mercs DO NOT go into our 5 speeds.
DexronVI and Mercon VI are different animals as well.
Common old Ford Type F is NOT GOOD.
Chrysler ATF+4 is also NOT GOOD.

The older, cheaper Dex/Mercs are suitable for the 4 speed units. If I had a 4 speed with dirty fluid, I'd flush it to near perfect cleanliness with older Dex/Merc then switch it over to a newer synthetic (Duradrive, Triple QX etc.) because those synthetics are just better products. Kira
