Default Where's the dead fish?

Recently, upon first starting and driving the car, there is a smell like dead fish in the cabin. My first thought was overheated insulation but on reflection I suspect that this smell emanates from mould and slime in the ventilation system. Can anyone advise what should be done. My XC70 was a luxurious car when I bought it but this smell tends to undermine its status!

You sure it’s fish .......

If you ruled out the alternative i’d suggest contamination on the evaporator ,

Evening Tatsfield, I came across this a while ago and put it in my "may come in handy list" find www.wonderhowto - go to,auto maintenance & repair- and find (how to) Use Lysol to clean bacteria out of your car's air conditioning system.

perhaps you could let us know the level of success you achieve?

Good luck and Regards,Keith.

New cabin filter and if you don't already, leave the climate system on Auto permanently.

I always run the air con and leave the climate control in Auto, so that's nothing new. I had a new cabin filter in October, which would seem to be sufficiently recent. I understand that Lysol is a US brand and the nearest thing here is Dettol. So unless someone is going to leap in and tell me not to, I'm going to buy some Dettol disinfectant spry and use that. I'll report back when it's done.

My Volvo dealer sold a Wurth product to sanitise the ventilation system. You started the car, set air con to cold and set off the wurth bomb. Closed the car and let it run for the stated time. Sorry cannot remember the exact time now but no more than half an hour I'm sure.
It was very effective on my P1 V70, not had the need to use it on the XC as yet.

Paul.

Eurocarparts sell one of those AC treatment bombs. Not sure of the brand though.
