Default Is this right?

Took the top engine cover off today only to hear something hitting the lower engine shield and roll about. It was the rubber grommet that usually sits in the shield which fell off. So then tried to get the car up my ramps to get the lower shield off which was a fail. When the car hit the ramps, it would slow down and stop just before the top and if I put more power on it was in danger of shooting over the ramps and causing me a very bad day. Anyone else have this issue? Anyway, while the cover was off I noticed two things. The pipe circled in the image below looks well mangled. Is this right? Also, there is a bare bolt hole which is suggesting something should be screwed in there?

Don't know about the bolt hole as I'm not familiar with your engine, but I'd say the mangled pipe is a cam cover/crankcase breather pipe, which is well past its best. Oil beats rubber, and I'd guess that pipe wants replacing. In fact I'm not sure it's even the original part, odd colour and tie wraps?

Does the bolt hole align with a rubber grommet on the inside of the top engine cover ? If so, one of the screw-in posts is missing.

I found this video online of a very smokey sick 2011 D2. It has the same pipe and the bolt hole empty too.

No, it doesn't align with anything under the cover.

Maybe there's a variant of your engine that has a hose clamp, or something else screwed in there. I'm sure it's not a problem left as it is. The threaded section is just a brass insert pressed into the plastic - there's not actually a hole through the camshaft cover.

The brass insert did look in very good nick as if it had just had the bolt removed and not replaced with no dirt getting in. I suppose with the engine cover it has kept all the dirt out of there.

No , all is well in your picture , that hose is fine , all you are seeing is the insulation material , the actual rubber hose is inside and in good condition I am sure .

This engine is used in many other cars , ford , citroen peugeot , fiat , mini etc so maybe they have a use for that screwed hole .

Thanks, just didn't look right with tie-wraps holding the pipe on. I would have expected oetiker or jubilee clips.
