Thanks I’ve done quite a bit of soldering so should be fine I think I have some heat shrink knocking around somewhere too, hopefully my battery powered soldering iron will be up to the job but the wires aren’t particularly thick. Will let you know how I get on but hopefully good as new in no time!

Once you've soldered it, slide the short length onto each join and zap it with the heat gun (or hair dryer), let it cool a few seconds then slide the longer bit over each join and shrink that too. Finally slide the longer (much longer to accommodate the staggered/offset joins) larger piece over both and shrink that as well so it all looks likeone continuous piece of wire again.

Hi all, massive thread resurrection here! Just to know, after successfully fixing this I sold the 940 to get something a bit newer and safer for the family- was looking for ages for a 7 seat 4x4 - was looking at Kia Sorrento for a while but have eventually gone for an XC90- I'm still of the view that 940s were the last 'proper' Volvos but I must say it's a lovely car. One thing that made me want to stay with Volvos is this amazing forum I've been on plenty of others with all the other cars I've owned but this is the best! All the best 700/900 owners I'm sure it's just a matter of time before I'm back definitely missing the 940 already- love how everything can be fixed without a computer- I'm already being told I need a laptop with vida for the xc90?! Cheers, James

What Dave said.........
I have a 940. My daughter has an XC70. It’s much easier to fix the 940. Having just read through your expedition regarding the 940’s fuse blowing problem I doubt very much whether similar would have been achievable with your XC90 but good luck anyway.
