Rear Springs/Shocks
Hi Spencer
Try this, its actually for a V40 but vertually the same procedure as a S40. I would advise three spring compressors personaly because they have a tendancey to move on the spring. Hope This Helps. |

2 bolts top you get to them better from behind the back seats as the liner is in the road ,1 bolt bottom ,set of spring clamps easy

I didnt even use spring clamps on mine haha.
I undid the top bolts completely then undid the bottom one and whacked the bolt out with a hammer and screwdriver. At this point the whole assembly went PING so I could remove the top mount and spring, compress the shock and lift it out. Then when I fitted it again I compressed the shock and dropped the bottom in place, put the spring on, top mount on then held it in place and did up the top mount nuts and centre nut. Then used a thin scissor jack on the bottom of the shock to lift the body and compress the shock into place and put the bottom bolt on. Used this method a few times for fitting springs and such items. Not had one hit me in the face yet. Probably not the "by the book" method but its the one that worked for me. Everytime I tried spring compressors on the rear ones they popped off and I thought I was going to lose my face. Although I would recommend spring compressors for the front ones. |
