My V90 D5 AWD returns 42mpg (mainly motorway with some fast A roads / town driving mixed in) my ex XC60 D5 (5 cylinder AWD) returned 39mpg over the same route long term. I was hoping for better but its OK given the cars substantial weight

Well that's a new one on me. If I stamp on the loud pedal at motorway speeds the car certainly picks its toes up when asked. And does so ruddy rapidly.

V90 D5 AWD R Design 68 plate Bursting Blue.

The turbo wouldn't need the same level of help when running at motorway speeds. The exhaust flow would already have the turbo up to speed.
