240 Torslanda - rear-facing seats/other mods.
Hi guys,
New to the forum, as I only picked up my 'new' 1993 240 Torslanda a couple of days ago. Apart from a few niggles with lights and a need for new headlights to be fitted to the thing, it seems to be a lovely old tank, having been looked after from new by a vintage enthusiast who spared no expense. Was wondering about the availability of a few bits and pieces for it though, and this seems to be the best place to ask. First off, the 2 rear-facing foldaway seats, any idea where I could get hold of a pair/how much? Also, probably in the distant future when I've saved up a bit of moolah, I'd like to price up yanking out the old 2.0, which does feel a little strained pulling the thing, and slotting in (albeit probably not as easily as that) a 740 turbo motor, or something that won't struggle to pull the thing. I'm sure there are threads for exactly that on this forum, but I'd appreciate some advice as well. I'll put up some pics when i've got her washed and tarted up a bit. Cheers, Tom |

Welcome to the forum Tom and may I compliment you on your choice of car.
As regards rear facing, it is possible I may have a set but without checking I'm not sure. However, they do come up on ebay from time to time and you may expect to pay £25 upwards. Do make sure that ALL the fittings and seat belts are with it. The 2.0 is a little sluggish but if you try keeping the revs up it canb be quite quick. You will however ntice a difference by dropping in a 2.3. As regards the possibility of dropping in the turbo lump this does make it an exceptionally quick car, The snag is I have not yet, and people will argue otherwise, seen a rhd conversion that works as it should. The turbo is prone to overheat the brake master cylinder and it really would need a custom manifold making to move the turbo well forward. On lhd cars it works fine. I have built one and hope to build another fairly soon. Mike

Cheers Mike,
Despite the lack of modcons and hard-to-love styling I'm very happy with the car. Glad to know the foldaway seats are so cheap. I was expecting a lot more given the general price of spares. If you have a set you don't want I'm sure we could talk. And thanks for the info about the turbo motor, perhaps the 2.3 would be more sensible. This is probably in 6 months time or so. I'm using the car at uni, so will see how I get on power and fuel consumption wise with the 2.0 for a couple of terms before I think about upgrading. Cheers, Tom |

Rear facing Seats
Hi Tom,
I have a rear seat with all the belts etc in VGC. I paid £35 from a member on here and will sell them for the same as I sold the car I had planned to fit them to. If your interested, I am in Stockport. Richard 07973 270219. Evenings 0161 456 9672 |

Richard,
I'm not too far from Stockport, but wouldn't be able to collect the seats until some time end of next week, as I'm moving uni house this weekend and won't be back in Chester till midweek at the latest. If you wouldn't mind holding em for me I'd be happy to swing by and make the bus even more of one. Would this be OK with you? Cheers, Tom |

No problem, I will hold on to it for you. That's two things sold on here this week that i've not had to list on Ebay, great.

NI_Volvo_Nut:
Appreciate the help, but Richard is slightly closer to me than you are, so logistically tis easier if I drive up to Stockport than get a ferry across to you Cheers though, Tom |
