PAS Rack required
I've just asked about Doingitsideways' car if he's going to break it, but I need a PAS Rack for SFSS.
The (re)conned one that's in has a major failure - the point where one of the fluid pipes enters/leaves the rack has no threads and the pipe was held in with paint according to the MoT man; certainly it has been drinking PAS fluid of late. I can collect within Cheshire/Wigan if anyone has one on the shelf, or knows where there is one.

Personally I would go for a recon rack - they run at about £120 exchange. If you are not prepared to pay that I may have a good s/h one about but would need to check what I have and condition first. There are several cars with racks still on so a good chance. I do get to Chester area fairly often and will definitely be up to Runcorn during next week.

If paint alone was able to hold in the hydraulic pipe then I would think that a carefully fitted Helicoil with the addition of Loctite hydraulic sealant on final assembly may well do the trick. Or alternatively use a 'step down' hydraulic adapter. Guess it would need the rack removing to do it though & guess it depends on the condition of the rest of the rack too - but if desperate.... I presume you know there were more than one type of rack fitted to the 240's. Be sure to buy the right one if you need to - though, to a degree, the only difference COULD be the gender of the inner track rod ends. I actually do have a spare reconditioned rack on the shelf but I want to keep it. But if you wanted to come and look at it to see any details that are difficult to see when mounted on the car you are welcome if we can arrange a convenient time for both of us. I'm not too far away from you, within Wigan MBC unfortunately. By the way - what is SFSS? Colin

Mike,
It was a reconned rack that was supplied, by a reputable Volvo parts company based in the south-east; if you've got one then I'm interested though I'm going to phone around this a.m. C_Lee, First off, the easy one - SFSS is Sweden's Finest Sporting Saloon. I work at the big Distribution Centre at Goose Green, just off J25 of the M6 and am on 8pm - 6am till Thursday morning,so could possibly drop over at some point. As I say above, I'm going to make a couple of phone calls this a.m. and will get back to both of you, but thanks for your assistance. Loki - currently NOT driving Sweden's finest sporting saloon...

GSFhttp://www.gsfcarparts.com/ Used to do re-con racks. May well still do. You had to buy your new (re-con) & leave a deposit which was refunded when you returned your knackered one for re-furb.
Not sure if they still do, but maybe worth a call..................

So I should be living up to my signature again by Thursday - hurray...
