Default 2009 V50 1.8 Petrol Coil Pack

Out of the blue car refused to start, but then did start but ran missing cylinders. Vida diagnosed coil packs 2+3 low/missing signal, so swapped over with 1+4, expecting to still be lumpy on restart but no ...started fine and ran fine as if nothing ever happened.
Question :- if coil packs have gone bad can you replace with a Ford pack or do you have to go to Volvo. I have no experience of V50, but know from experience that some V70 items really should be Volvo not 3rd party.

Cheers

Bob.
