S40 1.6D v C-Max 1.6 TDCi 90
My car was in the garage this week for a small repair and I was given a C-Max as a loan car, did 400 miles in it 300 on motorways and have to say it is way more powerful and nippier than the Volvo.
I didn't know when I collected it that it was a 1.6 and actually thought it was a 2.0 litre because it felt so much more responsive. I'd owned a C-Max before, a 2.0 Tdci and it felt every bit as good as my old car. This has me thinking, they are pretty much the same engine so how can the Ford feel so much better I don't think the C-Max would be any lighter so could it be down to gearing or the ECU, also got the same mpg as the S40 but had lots more fun. The Volvo is definately more comfortable and more refined, the Ford was noticably rattly and lots of cabin noise. Mine is an 05 S40 with 24k on it this was an 08 with 15k, any ideas? Alan |

Same engine, different....
Yes they have the same DV6 gemini engine but different ecu calibration and gear ratios, Ford always have lower NVH insulation that is why the Volvo is quieter.
