Default Jumping out of reverse.

My daughters 2009 v50 1.8 petrol manual has started to jump out of reverse gear intermitantly. At first I thought it was due to the gear not being selected correctly, but this proves not to be the case.
There are no other issues with the box - no difficulties getting or jumping out of other gears .

The car has only done 36K. As its only reverse gear Am temped to "live with the issue"

Cheers

Bob

Yes PM - its the 5 speed box. I thought it might be my daughter not selecting gear correctly, not getting the lever fully home, but not so. Husband has had same issue.
But no other gearbox issues.

Cheers

Long shot, but I read about a recall. Ours feels like it's in reverse but just grinds, if reselected a few times it goes ok.

Default Update

Update...

Thought we had a result, as our VIN matched one of those which was recalled....
But Volvo said there had according to them been any recall for this , and the only recall had been to do with a washer pump, which our car had had sorted....

Cheers

Does this not infer the recall was for auto gearboxes.

The problem in question, is on a manual one.

Have you had the linkages checked for full movement/wear/adjustment?

I have not checked/examined anything. This forum site has a massive amount of knowledge/experience about our Volvo's, especially their weaknesses.
While I know much and have learned more about P2 V70's in 10+ years I know little about the V50.
If jumping out of gear was a "known issue" to V50 owners, it made sense to me to seek their guidance before jumping in. It could have been as simple as a reverse light switch stopping the full travel of the gear linkage or similar.
As there has been only a modest amount of feedback I can only assume my daughters problem is not one shared by other V50 owners.

Cheers

Bob.

Bob, I have a v50 but it's a 6 speed, our C30 occasionally doesn't engage reverse, more of a lack of synchro . Popping out could be similar, has she tried shifting into first then back to reverse. Is it only when cold, could just need new fluid.
