Thoughts on my new R Design D5 V50
Hi all, new to the site and Volvo ownership
I've just come straight from a 3k mile Mercedes C Class Sport 180K with all the options and before that an A4 S-Line (1.9 tdi) so the pressure was on the Volvo. Firstly I love the seats (cream and black) and the centre console. It does feel 3 or 4 years older than the Merc in terms of design and gadgets but still a nice place to be. It also feels as roomy as the Merc, no doubt helped by the lack of compromising centre console. The 2.4D is fantastic. Being a stalwart Audi Coupe man back in the day it is lovely to have a Diesel that actually sounds nice! It has that offbeat 5 cyl warble. It also goes really well! The engine only has 500 miles on it now so I'm guessing still tight but pick up in any gear is fantastic. The Merc and Audi wouldn't even see which way I went in this. Amazed to see it didn't come with a trip computer as standard!!! I mean come on Volvo. Mine has cruise though which is nice. It also has safely home lights, but I can't for the life of me work out how to use them? Any advise welcome. With the Merc it was just if it was dark they worked. Minus points for the key too, what a ridiculous piece of over sized rubbish and I've already hit the attack alarm 3 times as it's just too easy when you're in a hurry. They are small gripes however and the car is composed, compliant ride and goes like the clappers. The mp3 aux connection is genius too So any help on safe home is appreciated and hi to all Volvo owners. Volvo for life? We'll see |

safe home
Just blip headlight flasher as you exit,
You can adjust duration via menu. Trip miles is all you get I'm afraid via speedo.

Great thanks a million guys.
One other thing- quoted Hp/ 0-60 figures. I'm hearing 350- 400NM torque, but understand this is auto v manual. 0-60 anything from 7.8 to 8.2... Any ideas? Cheers |

Re your comment about Trip Computer, the basic Sport is based on the 'S' spec. Stewart. |
