Headlight removal
Low beam bulb went yesterday on my wife's 2004 S40 - battery side - what a pig to get at !!
Ended up losing the retaining clip inside the bodywork [having spent ages trying to get the back cover off in the 1st place]. Found it eventualy when I removed the grill around the spot lamps. Couldn't get the clip back on as I don't have hands the size of a 2 year old to be able to work in the restricred space available. Ended up using blue tac to hold the bulb in place. Tried a search around in here - but to no avail. Was there an easier way to have gotten that [and future] bulbs out? Cheers Homer |

Homer,
If you look straight down on the top of each headlamp, you should see a shiny metal tab. Hook a finger under this tab and pull - this is a headlight retaining bar. With this removed the headlamp unit should pop out (when pushed from behind) from the front and give you easy access to change bulbs. Hope that helps you. Steve. |

Worked a treat - so much easier with the lighting unit out of the car. One thing I did encounter - when I first pushed the headlamp unit forward it seemed to be sticking/impeded in and around the area behind the flasher unit. I pushed the unit back into its housing and, on my second attempt, pushed the headlamp unit in a forward/sideways direction initially and then forward - it then came out with ease. On inspection, there is a 'lug' on the light unit that fits into a recess just behind the flasher unit - the slight sideways push pops that out allowing the forward push to move the whole unit out. Easy to see when doing it - I can't find the right words to explain it very clearly!! Suffice to say - it makes headlamp bulb replacement a breeze. Thanks again for the info. Regards Homer |

Homer,
Glad to have been of help to you. Pukka, I couldn't find how to replace the headlamp bulbs anywhere in the owners handbook, but the Haynes Manual did show me how to do it. For once "Just simply remove" did mean exactly that and not hit it with hammer and then it might shift! Steve. |
