My roof was green with algae when I bought it. Cleaned with Meguiars All Purpose Cleaner and a small nail brush. Scrubbed in straight lines across the roof to avoid too much scrubbing on the ribs. It soon produced a green scummy slurry. Washed off with the hosepipe and repeated until no more green was formed. Final rinse and allowed to dry. Then treated with Gtechniq Smart Fabric proofer. Not had to clean since and the roof is like new - mine is the blue fabric and looks superb in the sun.
Attachment shows hood after being cleaned.

Today I replaced the indicator stalk assembly on my 97 V70. For ages they haven't always cancelled properly, it's worse in cold weather. I've taken it apart several times and adjusted, lubed etc., but still problematic, it seems that my stalk is particularly stiff (ooh err) and doesn't want to return, i.e. has too much resistance.
I got one from a breakers on e-bay (£15 delivered so not wallet-breaking) which seems much "lighter" in action, and it appears to cancel just fine now, although I haven't used it much since replacement, so time will tell.

850R twins photoshoot
Some cool pics I recently had some fun with of my twins. I figured you will all enjoy them. The estate (auto) is staying and the saloon (manual) will be being on sale soon. They're inseparable at the moment Both the exact same spec inside and out (aside from the gearbox). A rare moment in history.

I will have a look in the parts box later. I should be able to photograph the mirror and the motors to show you what is behind the glass.

Was that on an 850 mate? I know there was a recall on the seat heaters from Volvo in the 90's. My passenger heater doesn't work but I don't plan to use them as they are fragile.

First: shows the back of the mirror glass. There are four locating pins with two clips - one either side. The pins and clips correspond with the corners of the mirror. Second: shows the glass lying down so hopefully you will be able to see the pins and clips better. Third: shows the motor mount with the holes that the pins locate into. The mirror clips locate behind the bottom edge of the circular ring where the locating holes are. I prised the mirror glass as far forward in the mirror casing as I could and got one finger behind to hold steady. I could then look in behind the glass and with a small screwdriver managed to release the clips - one corner at a time. Although done very carefully it was all 'sh*t or bust' although it all came apart remarkably easy. Fourth: shows the motor mount as you view once the glass is removed. The long white bar across the centre is the 'seesaw and wobble board' that the mirror adjusts on. on either side is an electric motor - one for up and down and the other for in and out. The ends of the motor have a small pinion cog that acts on a small plastic rack which in turn is mounted to the 'wobble board' by a ball and socket. The racks are the white things either side of the central seesaw at the top of the mount. The righthand one is intact, but the lefthand one is broken - only the ball and socket is left, the rack has broken off. Once the mirror glass is off, you can operate the mechanism and see what is happening. once all is good it is a simple job to line up the four locating pins and firmly press the glass into position to locate the clips. Don't forget the electrical connections for the heating element. HTH.

Finally got around to replacing the centre console wood-effect trim, my one had warped and cracked, and now bits have fallen off it looks terrible. Robert DIY's video was useful in reminding me how to remove the centre console, pretty easy really, it all came apart and went back together fairly easily and looks super smart again now. Didn't take more than about an hour all in, and that included giving the inside of the console a good clean, removing crumbs and other debris etc.
Big thanks to SteveSarre of this forum for supplying the trim pieces, top man, much appreciated, they look great, sorry it took so long to get around to doing the job!
