engine light on again
hi all,
i just had my etm replaced at my local volvo garage to the sum of £400 and my car has been fine for two weeks now but i was out in it today and the engine management light came on. Straight away i pulled over switched it of then back on but was still there got home called the rac. the kind man read the code which was 1171 and said it came on at 35mph and the sensor in the exhaust comanded more fuel and so switched the car into safe mode. i was wondering if anyone can shed some light onto the reason for this code and secoundly if this is at all related to when volvo changed my etm. any help will be good thanks darren |

sorry i have been a little foolish and forgot to say that my car is a 1999 c70 2.3 t5 and that the only term relating to the code is rotor sensor faut but i am not sure what this actually relates to and what the problem actually is.

Are you sure it was 1171 and not 171....
171 is DTC P0171 = System too lean....can often be MAF related. |

Code P1171 (long term fuel trim) on a ME7 car, in my experience, has always required the replacement of the MAF sensor.

My advice is to use the 10 digit Bosch part number on the existing unit to source a genuine Bosch replacement.
Last time I bought one it was £150. I'd not bother with cheap e-bay specials you will just waste time, money and give yourself more grief. |

I think 0 280 218 045 is now superceded with 0 280 218 108
But have a look in yellow pages for a Bosch automotive agent. Give them your part no and see if it's been superceded (they often have). They should be able to tell you the new part number and give you a quote for a new one as well. |
