Default Max miles to a tank

I’m picking up a first gen XC60 D4 FWD auto on the weekend and the claimed extra urban MPG is 65.7.

Theoretically it should be possible to get close to 1000 miles on a single tank but have read that claimed MPG is wildly optimistic.

Forget that figure, you will be driving on a road not in a lab. I had a D4 manual and averaged 42-44 over the 3 years. On motorway journeys I could get 46, maybe 48mpg. I consider myself quite an economical driver whilst not driving like a nun.

Don't forget that car is a heavy slab of a car, you won't be getting Yaris style mpg in a big SUV.

my '17 D4 manual fwd XC60 will average 46-50, depending on speed. At a steady 50 (bloody average speed cams) it will return 49mpg or better, but get up to 65-70 and mpg drops to about 45.
Anyway - you've bought it. It's comfortable, quiet and quick enough - for a wheeled wardrobe...I like mine.

In addition when the fuel light comes on at 70 mls or so get fuel! I delayed and got down to 50 miles and ran out as I live in a hilly area and on a long uphill drag the fuel went to the rear of the tank away from the pickup. The Volvo tech who came with a gallon to top up said that this was his most common call out
particularly on low fuel and up inclines.
