Engine system service required
Please help.
My car came up saying engine service system required. It was showing to much oil. The garage looked at it and apparently took some out. It's done 4k since it was serviced. I'm thinking failed regens and it's dumped diesel into the sump. Any advice help much appreciated. It's an XC60 d5 2010. |

You could consider taking a sample of the used oil and sending it to an oil analysis lab (I use Blackstone in the US) which costs around 20 quid plus one way postage to find out if the oil is contaminated with fuel. If the amount of diesel in the oil exceeds 2% it will result in increased long term wear unless you move up to using a thicker oil. The human nose is normally capable of detecting diesel on a warm dipstick when it exceeds 5%. Diesel fuel contamination in engine oil reduces after a good run as most of it evapourates, but alas the Bio fraction does not as it has a higher flash point and it is that part that accumulates in old style DPF systems that use fuel to regen the unit.

Is that a 202bhp twin turbo?
If so I don't think that engine (which is the same as mine) is as susceptible to the regen problem leading to diesel ending up in the engine oil.
