RE: More new boots
Personally I think you're mad to choose a cheapo tyre - there's far more sensible ways of saving money. Have you seen the tyre test results in AutoExpress etc? Very few of the budget brands are remotely comparable, especially when it comes to critical areas like braking distance and wet handling.
Honestly, if it means spending £150 a tyre vs. £25 a tyre and I know the car will stop several metres quicker at motorways speeds, I'm happy to pay the extra. I don't doubt even the cheapest tyres meet DoT standards, but that's a very undemanding minimum level of safety.

Well I think you're mad for getting the 2.4 rather than the T5, but it's all down to individual preference, isn't it! I have no doubts at all about the cheaper branded tyres, I've got premium tyres on my auto at the moment vs. cheaper tyres on the manuals and I honestly don't notice any difference in braking, wet/dry handling.

>miles..... hey ho guess that's the price you pay for a big, >heavy FWD car..... Why blame the car. I have just changed the Conti Premium Contact 2s on the front of my D5 for another set after they had been on for 35,000 miles. So is it the driver, the car or the tyres? |

So is it the driver, the car or the tyres? Must be the driver - think I've been behind you on an A-road once.... (just kidding) My 60 mile round trip to work each day has 28 roundabouts.....

RE: More new boots
I've had loss of air problems like 1 - 2lbs. psi/week in the past, too - with diverse brands, cheap and expensive - and found that if the 'leaky' tyre was removed and a tyre fitter sealing substance was painted around the rim before refitting the tyre it resolved the problem for the life of the tyre. I believe that some fitters always paint it on as ongoing procedure to ensure a good seal between bead and rim. Of course it's best to get it done asap after fitting as, in my experience anyway, the fitter will refit it for free. Although I have had one occasion where they were happy to do it for nowt 6 months! later on provision of my proof of purchase receipt. However I was always wary that they'd try to wriggle out by blaming 'leaky rims'. To their credit, they never 'tried it on'. 12 months after fitting may be a different story - perhaps you've already been down that route...but if they want to sell you expensive Michelins in future??...If my fitter wouldn't play ball, I'd considered trying one of the DIY antipuncture compounds as much less expensive than ditching part-worn tyres for new. I'd looked at Punctureseal/similar...search on Google.
