Boot won't open - Volvo S40 D 2007
Hi Everyone,
My Volvo S40 boot won't open. Not sure if its connected, but the glove box is also faulty. The latch on the glove box is broken. I managed to get it open from the side by pressing in the latch. The light in the glove is always on. Would this have anything to do with the boot not opening. It just stopped all of a sudden. Yesterday I unfortunately reversed my car into a pole (Boot wouldn't open before I did this). I need to change the rear tail light cover as it's smashed. Only issue is I can't access the boot to do so. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks |

Your boot lid and glove compartment problems will be completely unrelated. The glove box latch is entirely mechanical whilst the boot is electro-mechanical.
I don't have much knowledge as why the glove box latch has failed, most likely mechanical failure and the switch to detect if the glove box is open or closed is not being closed by the latch hence the light being on all the time. Rearding the boot: This is a common issue with these cars, the wiring loom which goes between the car and the boot lid breaks at the point where wires flex with opening. The solution is to repair or replace the wiring loom. This isn't a particularly hard job to do yourself although opening the boot will be tricky. I have written a guide on replacement here. Good luck! |
