confused about engine oil specs for diesel engine
Hello all,
I just bought this 2000 V40 1.9D (D4192T2 engine) with 300 000 km to be used as a sort of a beater car for daily commuting. It has cosmetic issues (peeling paint, some hail damage) which I don't care about, but is mechanically in good shape (checked by a mechanic) with working AC and cruise control. It was cheap too, 280 euros. Anyway, I want to keep it regularly serviced so I was looking at the engine oil specs and I'm a bit confused. Ambient temperature range throughout the year where I live is approx. from -15C to +35C with a couple of days even higher and lower. The owner's manual lists these viscosities for different temperatures: +10C and below: 5w-40 -20C to +30C: 10w-40 -15C and above: 15w-40 It also gives a separate warning not to use 5w-40 above +10C. While VIDA says to use 5w-40 regardless of ambient temperature. I don't want to change oil more than once a year because I won't be doing more than 15k km a year. Which viscosity oil should I use? I know the rating has to be ACEA A3/B3/B4. Thanks |
