Default P1600 ETM fault but only when cold

Hi, I am a returning member but I haven't been here for so long I have disssapeared off the system I am back with an issue that I just cant seem to fathom.

I have a 2001 C70 Convertible. its the 2.0 LPT turbo. when the engine is cold it runs extremely lumpy and gives fault code P1600 with a pending code of P1608. IIRC these relate to the troublesome ETM. I have cleaned the throat and butterfly but still the symptoms remain.

However. once the temp guage hits the normal operating temp, if I switch the car off. leave it 15 minutes and restart it, there are no warning lights and the car runs perfectly. if I remove the fault codes they do not return until the car is cold again and it runs terribly again.

I just wondered if anyone had come across something similar?

I am reluctant to replace the ETM just yet as if it is a fault elsewhere I will be wasting my hard earned. If it was consistent at all temps I would of course not hesitate.
The car is mine very cheaply and I have it advertised for sale but I would rather keep it and spend some cash on it if I can definitely fix it.

As it seems to be an issue when cold, have you considered a faulty temperature sensor?
Just a thought but I realise the codes don't suggest this.
