Default Ordering a new Volvo and delivery times

I have read with interest some of you guys that have ordered a new Volvo and notice length of time from ordering to accepting delivery is varied.

What new Volvo have you ordered and how long has it taken to arrive?

If one orders a new Volvo, can the customer say order it today and request it is delivered on a date later than would be nomal? For example if one ordered a new Volvo today and estimated delivery was say 30th May could it be requested that delivery was instead in September?

Regards

I can answer the last paragraph. Yes. I am in that position now where I am looking to change my company car in mid July. For the cars I am looking at the lead times vary from 12-16 weeks, not allowing for blips in production. On that basis I always order earlier than required. That may mean that the car is made within the normal time period and is then held for 6 weeks, that happened with my current Volvo, or the dealer may hold back the order until the correct time frame. I suspect most place the order and then hold the car in stock until the required date.

There will be a time frame that is too long, how long will depend on each dealer, but 2-3 months should not be an issue. Don't forget if the dealer signs you up then you are unlikely to be distracted by another car. If you don't sign and wait until the correct lead time then your head may be turned by another model.

As an observation (and I haven't bought a brand new car for years now) but in this day and age I'm amazed to see reference to a delivery lead time of 16 weeks.

Is it the case that the factories are so busy just now that it takes four months to assemble a car?

I could understand this being the case if the customer orders something really special or wants a lot of factory options, but is this the norm for 'everyday' cars too?

Every day cars are 8-12 weeks. I know the VW/Audi/Skoda/Seat group often have issues due to demand on certain engines as they are shared across the range. The 2.0 diesel engines are in high demand and they struggle to keep up. Other components tend to be okay but I believe it is the engines that usually cause the issues.

In the past mfrs would make cars and park them up so you could order a standard car and get it quickly. I suspect they are all made to order now. Remember the fields of new cars following the recent banking crash / recession. That scarred mfrs massively.

I am about to order a new V 60 SE D2 Powershift with metallic paint, and have been told delivery will be around 8 weeks - built to order, but because I want heated front seats and integrated rear child seats ( which I have had on my current & previous Volvo's ) it will be around 12 weeks - built to order.

I remember that the other new Volvos were on a 12 week delivery schedule also, so nothing's changed.

Regards,

When I ordered my XC60 I was told beginning of September for delivery. Received it July 4th. Ordered I believe early May. Loads of options fitted too.

When we ordered wife's V40 last year, we were told 8-12 weeks delivery time (the usual time). Came exactly after 8 weeks, collected on the dot of 9 weeks.

The actual time to assemble the car is supposedly around 4 hours.

I have had a full spec XC60 R Design hybrid on order for 2 months . Volvo cannot even give me a delivery date despite several requests . It would be my 5th Volvo What a way to treat loyal customers

I ordered my V60 Momentum Pro D4, with quite a few additions, on 5th September, and I took delivery on 28th November.
