Holy thread resurrection!

Just wondering whether you got anywhere with this in the end OP?

I've had a claim knocked back on my 2015 S80 for the same reasons so am just in correspondence with Volvo now to request some form of goodwill towards a repair considering the absolutely shocking design of the roof.

The attached picture shows what I'm dealing with on mine, sadly I think it will need the screen taking out to repair it properly. God only knows what it's going to cost.

I have a 2015 v70, also in white, which I've had from new.

It's done nearly 90k, and on cleaning it last week I found both inner wheel arch lips on the front are bubbling, as is a small raised bubble on the rear wing.

Corrosion isn't all the way through, so not covered. Looks to me the corrosion guarantee is worthless as you'd have to let the car rust right through before they'd cover it.

Typically what would this cost to repair? Did the OP ever get it resolved?

the 12 year body warranty is "perforation" so it has to show signs on the outside which yours has . A condition is that the service book body check has to be signed and dated each year of course .

So is this a hook in order to keep using the dealer for annual servicing?

Yes but there are other advantageous "hooks". Dealers will update all the ECU software free of charge and if you have the car serviced just once every year you qualify for free Volvo breakdown services. Plus the fact that the dealer uses genuine Volvo parts. If you have a good, honest and reliable Volvo dealer, it's probably worth having the car serviced once a year by them and having other work done by a good, honest and reliable independent.

At £144/h labour rate my stealer can swivel.

Yes I have a good Volvo dealer in Perth. Currently have vehicle rescue via auto aid. I suppose with a Volvo service negates the need. It’s cheap though.

It is stone chips, indeed. That happens to all the V70/XC70/S80 models of this generation. The frontal part of the roof, just above the windscreen, is just painted. No protection from flying rocks from ahead. The roof isn't galvanized, as it's normally not sensitive to rust.

But at this particular point it is.

If you drive on badly maintained roads, and have a habit of keeping a short distance to the car in front of you, the effect is multiplied a couple of times.
Some people put a protective screen, plastic or rubber, in front of this area. Some live by it, and repaint damaged places (like myself).

At those rates your dealer probably falls short of "good, honest and reliable"!

While a cheaper independent garage could save you enough to pay for your own breakdown service and they may or may not be able to source either genuine Volvo parts or after-market parts of comparable quality at reasonable prices, what they almost certainly will not be able to do is to uprate your car's software which a dealer does 'free of charge'. These are considerations but only you can evaluate their importance to you.
