Default Fuel door doesn't lock

The door over the fuel cap doesn't lock when car is locked. I am getting conflicting answers when googled ... Does anyone know for sure if this is acceptable on MOT? Even if it is, any thoughts what might be wrong?

The filler cap is secure, although not a locking cap, but the door over it opens even when the car is locked!

There is normally around about a 10 minute delay in the fuel flap locking after locking the car.
This is so you can lock the car at a petrol station but still access the fuel cap so check the delay first.
You can turn off this delay on many models using Dice and Vida.

If it still doesn't work, hopefully my video here will be of use.

I suspect that you are going to turn out to be a gem. I checked the wiring ... got a satisfactory reading. I then took the device apart and gave it a good clean. I didn't have Vaseline but I did have PTFE grease. Didn't work. I suspect the PTFE was too heavy. Clean off again and a dab of WD40 it opens every time now. Waiting for the timer to kick in to see if it locks too.

And, after 10 minutes or so I checked, it seems to be working. £114 saved from a new Volvo part.

Thank you Chesired5

I think it can also be programmed with Vida. Some cars locks after 10 min, other only a few seconds after moving on.

my car hasn't got the lock mechanism so it can't ever lock and has never had any MOT issues

Its not an issue for the MOT the only thing that is checked is the fuel cap has a good seal
