Volvo v40 petrol turbo detailed information please?
Good morning all,
I am middle aged, and have numerous 'classic' swedish and german 'toys' ,some with which i compete, rallying, hillclimb and sprint. Some are restored, some in the middle of restoration/build, most are 'Dream cars'(that i longed after, when i was a kid) and some of the 'Dream cars' i don't own.....yet! But ALL of them,are/have been rebuilt by myself. Over the years, nearly all of them have remained unfaithful to 'Standard factory specification'. Current daily drive is a 1998 VOLVO V40se D4192T,which is low mileage, and doubles up as a service barge,at weekends, fitted with bilsteins naturally. I have been considering a v40 T4 or 2.0 turbo. Phase 1 or phase2,Manual or auto? Question is then? B4204T/2/3/4/5 or B4194T? Are either of these 'Renault' derived engines? Which are the most reliable, are there any particular issues, with the earlier year 1998-2000 turbo engines/gearboxes? The 240se pictured incidentally, is destined for 2.3 t conversion..... |

None of the Petrol engines are Renault, they're all Volvo (except the 1.8 GDI, which is Mitsubishi).
The 2.0L is the most common, and the T4 is quite rare, and could be quite difficult to find. Personally I'd go for a Phase 2 model, it's nicer to look at, and is a bit more refined than the Phase 1.

for me id say the T4 as opposed to the 2.0t, but then as an owner of a T4 of course im gonna say that
LTEcactus is correct about the phase 2 cars being a little more refined and modern, although in a t4 sense, and especially if you wish to venture away from standard in terms of power output, the phase 1 with the b4194t unit may be a better option, because given that the phase 1 is 1855cc, but still makes 200hp, it comes with a forged bottom end as standard, which lends itself to power upgrades more readily than the later 1948cc b4204t5 phase 2 cars, although these are still great, as that's what mine is.
