Been checking a few things on the car and notice on both front suspension a gap, wonder if any of you guys could point me in the right direction to go about to repairing these if that not normal.
Would this be the strut top mounts need replacing or is this be down to the coil springs weakening as this is a S60 D5 2007 with 253000 miles on the clock.

The only small knock we hear is when going over a pot hole which sometimes can't be avoided or a bump on nearside.

Thats normal it is just a bump stop , the movement is the flex in the top rubber joint which gives you a smooth ride .
The knock could be a anti-roll bar link rod joint or an internal noise from the front suspension damper .

good luck with the outer joint , a 4 wheel align after would probably benefit your car too ...

At 250K miles I would be really surprised if the spring seat is still the original one. This is what it looks when it's completely failed. They start cracking from underneath, when you find the crack from above it's already pretty damaged. I forgot to film when I was turning the wheels, the failed side clearly causes the top rubber plate to move erratically as the wheels turn. Anyhow, for this part use only Sachs, Rein or CRP

Or you can go the OEM way, like I did after about one year of AM spring seat usage.
