S40 2.0D Cheap performance upgrades? Please help!
Hello.
This is my first post on the forum so be gentle with me! I'v just bought an S40 2.0D 2008. Massive upgrade in both quality and speed from my previous Ford Fusion. I do have to say firstly that I am already impressed with the speed and torque. I'v pretty much spent all my cash on the car so dont have much to spend on tuning etc. I can't afford to get a re-map or superchip. Can anyone give me pointers on quick and inexpensive upgrades that I can make that wont cost the earth? I'm guessing air filter etc would be the easiest? I'm not a petrol head so any advice would be greatly appreciated. Please keep it simple! Thank you |

There is no cheap way to unlock extra performance.
A remap is the only recommended upgrade I can advise... Save those pennies That ebay box will break your engine in the long run. Decent remap (MTE, RICA etc) will see around 160bhp / 380nm |

It has been shown that them boxes that if they don't just have some wire to make LED's light up, then all they do it trick the ECU in to over-fuelling the engine which as said above, will damage your car in the long run, maybe even in the short run.
There is no way you would get 35+HP for £35 in a little box, you need a proper map for that. Best think I recommend, if you can't make you car faster, make it handle better, so new/better rubber, brakes, suspension ect ect. Really I would suggest saving up, modding a car get's very expensive very fast, it's cost me £350-400 just in a basic suspension swap, and that's with cheap suppliers at mates rates. |

Thanks guy's
Thakns for the advice.
Avoided the ebay box. Saved my pennies and got it booked in on Tuesday for a Superchip. Really wanted a Bluefin but they just don't do it for the S40. Prob not enough demand. Hey ho. |

Just to be the boring old fart.
The increase in power will also mean an increase in insurance. Of course you can choose not to tell them and hope it doesn't become an issue if you have an accident.
