I had Volvos decades ago when they were Volvos - simple, robust, safe cars, setup for comfort over sporting prowess which had a certain niche appeal. During the Ford era I always thought - why not just buy a cheaper Ford equivalent of the same car? Now they're Chinese I had to really hold my nose to purchase one - quite simply the XC90 was the only SUV style car which has 7 seats and still a reasonable amount of luggage space with all the seats in use with decent petrol/auto options (I never buy diesel.) It's an okay car - excellent performance but not particularly refined or comfortable. I would have bought something more interesting if I didn't need the 7 seats. IE stick with Range Rover or the (then forthcoming) DS7 e-tense which was at the top of my "interesting" list, it ticked all the boxes other than the seat requirement.

I find modern cars to be crashy and unrefined, during most of my 40+ years as a motorist I've mainly focused on Jags, big Citroens, Range Rovers - cars that can handle a bump without rearranging your spine. I couldn't care less about lap times. This is the disappointing thing about my XC90 - a £75K "prestige" car that rattles you about like a skateboard. It's going the millisecond I can do without 7 seats! It's by no means a bad car, but I get so damn irritated by road noise, scuttle shake and jiggly low-speed ride - and on these matters it misses the mark by a country mile. I mean, when a poxy Audi (Q7) is far more refined - you know you've done a bad job as an engineer.

Unhappy Disappointed

After all the problems with ABS/DSTC lights coming on, which is still not cured, and independent Volvo experts can't find out the problem, my answer is definitely NO!
I do like my 2012 V60 but the problems with it have put me right off modern Volvos.
However, it's very difficult to find something I like out there now!

Well, that is what happens when you are big enough to share engineering costs. The current Q7 is a very sizeable part Bentley Bentayga. The previous model also shared Phaeton / Continental elements.

A used SQ7 is a bargain in my view from an engineering perspective...

I took a risk, of sorts, on a high mileage 2015 XC60 D4 Luxury with 260,000Kms on the clock. It has a full main dealer history and one owner from new, so the background for the car is very good.

So far, VERY happy. I've never owned a car which gobbles up road trips like this thing does. I can drive 3, 4, 5 hours and feel like I've just got into the car so that's a huge change from my previous vehicles. Everything works, the construction feels bullet proof and it just does everything I need with no fuss or bother. Brilliant.

Default 2007 auto d S60, 35,000 miles £6K

After owning several Volvos 240,2x 340,740 ,S80 we have always been more than happy and run them all into the ground .
Now I,m in my twilight of my driving , we are considering buying our last probably car and hopefully that’s a Volvo.

Don’t anywhere near the mileage , mainly shipping grandkids locally and the very occasional motorway journey.

We are considering an immaculate Volvo 60 SERIES D5 SE EU4 - 2007 (56 plate) 2 previous owners 34,700

YE56SLV, the dealer is asking £5’995.

Of course with respect I’m asking the brilliant forum opinions on paying 6K for a 2007 diesel.

Cheers folks have a good day.

You will be better off if you spend the 6 on a newer model with about 90k on it imo, it will be a 2010-14 and the next gen to the one you are looking at which I can't find right now, I did see an 06 with 39k on it also asking 6k, if you find a newer one just make sure it's got a verified history and the cambelt has been done, the one you're looking at looks it's age where the newer one only went out of production 3-4 yrs ago.

I agree with the previous posters - mileage that low is not really much of a benefit, IMO, and that seems like a huge amount of money for a 15+ year old car.

My old P2 V70 D5 (so more or less the same thing) did nearly 500k, and still drove well when I got rid of it at 400k. I really didn't spend much on it at all.

cheers

James

Not in a million years.

Which is an awful pity, 'cause I really like my car.

I'd buy another proper Volvo, definitely. I wouldn't buy a Ford in a fancy skirt masquerading as a Volvo, or a post Ford Cholvo in a million years though.
