doesn't cat C mean your insurer has written it off ?

Sill damage could be an issue but a friend of mine had a similar issue and got it repaired for not too much.

Yes cat C is an insurance loss category, meaning its not economical to repair it.

Surprised its category C, category D is the lightest. Id presume they are expecting it to need more work than you think..

I think it depends if the chassis is bent or not....

The car is still worth the thick end of £10,000 so I cannot believe that this was a write off all the damage is just superficial, nothing structural.

This would be back on the road for less than £3000 and that’s going via a top notch body shop.

Some one will have a cracking car if they take it on.

I reckon there's rear suspension damage looking at the rear O/S wheel

Also. The ECU is in front corner N/S - if that area (wiring and brain) are damaged insurance will not touch it.

There's still an aweful lot of labour required to put it right - parts count maybe low but from experience what looks cosmetic might not be.

A good project for someone with the right means and time.

hi sorry for the delayed replies.......

Ive had the car checked out by various body shops in the area, i can confirm there is no sill damage (T5_Monkey) just needs a new side skirt, NO damage to the chasis or engine, electrics all working fine no warning lights no air bags deployed in the collision. (Sprout99)

ive also taken the car to a specialist wheel/tyres place and there is NO damage underneath or to the suspension and ive had the geometric (4 wheel alignment checked front and rear) it has been diagnosed as needing adjustment 5-7mm out front and rear. which can be done i was quoted at £60.

(SIRS2000) - sounds like you know your stuff ive been geting quotes from some highly rated body shop repairers between 1700-2500 for all bodywork and even alloy refurb incl in top end quote (which can be saved ive been told by a couple of the body shops and wheel garage)

(GAZ_T4), yes you are right the 3rd party insurance company deemed it a CAT C total loss because the cost of repairs (from VOLVO maindealer accident repair) was more then they where willing to pay for. Thats why they classed it as a CAT C.

All the body shops i went to said car can be repaired only parts needed are side skirt, and front bumper lower spoier/splitter. if you really want to be picky then door skins also but doors are definiately repairable.

(FranCuz) - I am open to sensible offers. SIRS2000 is right value once repaired is in the region of 10-11K, but im not after that much obviously. The problem is its hard to find a V50 with the right spec and D5 Engine and Colour coded black on black. and if you do find one its snapped up pritty quick.

In My opinion my example looks alot better then the Rdesign 2 tone leather and silver external trims.

Hope the info helps ive been in 2 minds whether to keep it and repair it or sell it, thats why ive been running around getting the quotes etc.

If anyone has any questions plz message me or post your questions and il reply ASAP. And if anyone wants to come and check/view the car let me know. As i mentioned ive owned the car from around 2 months old, and ive still got all the original purchase documents, FVSH, MOTS etc.

Cheers

Sorry forgot to mention the front bumper damage is purely damage to the bumper. The headlight hasnst been effected/cracked or damaged.

I had a look around, as its hard to believe that what can be seen in your pictures has written it off.

The way it works is this(quoted from insurance):

There are 3 important figures -

1)the cost of repairs
(this will be estimated by the garage/repair centre and the insurance motor assessor will check the figures and agree a repair cost with them)

2)the pre-accident value (PAV) of the vehicle
(this will be assessed by the motor assessor using (in most cases) Glass's Guide to Car Values. Glass's collect huge volumes of data from car sales transactions all over the country and every month they produce Glass's Guide to Car Values, as well as several other similar highly specialist publications covering motorcycles, commercial vehicles and older vehicles. The information in the Guide includes mileage and condition. The motor assessor looks up the make of your vehicle, finds the listings for the model, looks for the particular variant and engine size then selects the year of first reg and the reg plate prefix/suffix/year code. This gives him a cost new (list price) for that vehicle, and the sales transaction data has been used to calculate Guide Condition Retail ("Top Book") and a Trade Value ("Bottom Book") figures.
There is also listed the average mileage. The assessor compares the condition of your vehicle with the "Guide Condition", and this enables him to value your vehicle somewhere along the value line between Top Book and Bottom Book. The Guide also has tables of adjustments for higher or lower than Guide Mileage and he will apply the appropriate adjustment to arrive at the pre-accident value.

3)the value of the vehicle in its damaged condition - the salvage value.
(The motor assessor will use his experience of the damaged/repairable market to put a value on the vehicle in its damaged condition. Alternatively, many insurers now have arrangements with salvage companies to buy all of their salvage for a pre-agreed percentage of the PAV (see above). This might be something like 12.5%, regardless of the damage, but as the insurers in this case are not your own insurers, the vehicle is not theirs to dispose of, and this method is less likely to be relevant.)

These 3 figures are used to work out the insurer's options.

If the repair cost is more than the PAV, the car will be written-off.

If the PAV minus the salvage value is LESS than the repair cost, it will be cheaper for the insurers to write-off your car and sell the salvage, than to repair it.

If the PAV minus the salvage value is MORE than repair cost, it will be cheaper to repair the car.

So, say your car is worth £10k pre-accident and its worth maybe £3k now (you'll know- you bought it back)?

So they have gave you £7k and keep the car- it has cost them £7k, which is obviously less than they thought it would cost to repair- or they would have repaired it.

These figures are a rough estimate. You say pre-accident its around £10k, and you will know how much the insurance gave you it back for. The difference between these is LESS than it would cost to repair.

For me- thats worrying!

There must be more damage than meets the eye..
