2012 S60 Yaw Sensor - how bad?
Hi lovely folks, I’m just on to see how really effed up I might be with this situation.
‘12 s60 e drive , manual, bought her a year ago. Has always had a lightbulb fault warning on. Anyway, All going swimmingly to one day about a month ago the ABS/DSTC lights came on. Into local garage and was new front bearings. Grand. They cleared the computer and off I went - no more ABS/DSTC lights. A few days later I got a letter from Volvo recalling the car as she needed her safety belts reinstalled. Grand, off to a Volvo garage which are hens teeth especially when you live in the backend of Ireland. So today in she went, I’m like grand new belts, they’ll run a diagnostic, GRAND! Apparently there’s a issue with her yaw sensor and it’s effecting the airbag system. I just get in and drive like a granny never coped the passenger “no airbag” light was on over my head. She didn’t come with it tho, I’d say around the time the ABS lights came on if I’d to wreck my memory bank. How absolutely effed am I? Going on what I can find online re price it’s eye watering, might have to go and cry a bit. It’ll have to be done, I’ve no choice, I need her for work. I just want to be prepared. Lovely guy though, he did say it might just be the wires to it (as I’m having a panic attack) bless! It’s fortunate she was recalled for the belts I’d have no idea. Thanks so much lovely people, E xx |

The dealer seem to know what, or at least where, the fault is so perhaps they could advise the consequences of repairing it or otherwise?

I don't have an S60, but...
If there was a genuine Air Bag system fault I would expect a very prominent light and message on the dash, not above your head. Also, can't see how a yaw sensor could affect only passenger air bag. Are you sure the passenger Air Bag has not been turned off manually? There is likely a key operated switch to allow it to be turned off (so a child seat can be fitted in the front). On my XC60 the switch is on left side of dash - can be seen when the passenger door is opened.
