Very amusing - I was gonna say that sometimes if there's coolant there it is meant to be there!
I'm not sure if there's a section in Volvo books about this but Mercedes have a list of expected resistance vs temperature for their coolant sensors - you could check the sensor instead of just replacing and hoping...

Welcome to this forum! Oil where you would expect water (or vise-versa) would generally be a pretty significant problem...know thine sensors(!), and their locations! Especially on an injected car, a shop manual is/should be your first source of information. Always be as specific as possible when giving symptoms and conditions..."half the dials not working" is not, especially when some (Oil Temp, Coolant Temp, Fuel Level) of the instruments of the E model require the output of VStabilizer (NOT V Regulator!), other instruments do not. Typical failure mode is that instruments read high when VStab fails to cycle from the closed/full output voltage condition). Thanks Ron, Your correct too little info, :-) I thinks the water temp is down to sensor, Speedo cable not working (have to look into that ) Oil pressure gauge just moving a small amount above 0 can see it move when running, but did notice oil/grease at bottom of gauge so suspect a leak. oil temp gauge not working either so will have to find sensor.
Fuel and Rev counter working and of course the dreaded clock not working :-) The car had some engine work done by a not competent garage !!! :-( Thanks Paul |
