Default V50 or V70 ?

Hi all,

I have owned an S60 for the last 4 years but its time to move it on as its starting to cost money to keep it going.

I have always fancied owning a Volvo estate so wanted some advice please.

Budget is £4-£5K, and I need a car that will tow a small caravan (2/3 berth approx 17ft long). And would prefer an automatic.

Would you buy a car with a tow bar already fitted or buy without and have one fitted professionally?

Also - reliability wise how good are the V50s compared to the V70s. My S60 is quite thirsty - averaging 28mpg (petrol). would want something mid 30s or better, so should i go for Petrol or Diesel?

Thanks in advance

Jim

The answer has to be a V70 D5 in that scenario, I'd have thought.

Thumbs up

Exactly as above. V50 is a Ford Focus in disguise and in my opinion not even half as good as a v70 D5. My favourite having owned P3 and P2 V70s and an s60 are the P2 cars. You can get a nice example with your budget. In my opinion they are a bit more reliable, better quality interior and more comfortable seats. Either way the V70 is the way to go

V70
And I'd go for one that has towbar already fitted- just check is it original and electrics are done correctly.

V70 if your towing, go for a D5.

My son has a V50 T5 and whilst good does not compare to a V70 either in size and flexibility or quality of build. I cannot imagine trying to tow a caravan with it, it just isn't big enough.

The chassis and the floorpan are the same, some suspension and brake parts, the rest is all different.

I've had a S60 d5 185 for a couple of years. Fuel economy is mid 40's, torque is superb, excellent for towing.

So it's a focus with a Volvo interior and possibly a Volvo engine dependant on variant.
P3 V and XC70s are Mondeo with Volvo interiors and engines dependant on varient.
Many jaguars were mondeo's in drag.
As I explained to a friend whom had a jag, my Mondeo had a Volvo D5 engine, his had a ford. He was so hacked off with this he chopped it in for a BMW.

As to the original question V70 D5 but get it polestared if towing, makes an excellent car superb.
Paul.

As others have said the V70 D5 is the 1 for towing . I have had 2 of these because I tow a caravan as well and the V70 is a very stable car.
