New clutch has arrived. No release bearing, so I dunno whether to obtain one, or where I'd even get one. When they said "clutch kit" I thought it meant everything.

Im unsure on whether your car is petrol or diesel flavour, but on the T4 there is no release bearing, it is just a 2 piece kit, as they use something called a concentric slave cylinder instead of a release bearing, which comes seperately, mine cost about 70 quid from memory.

Been away for a couple of weeks so just resumed fitting everything back and general servicing.
I removed the exhaust to get to the underside and also repair the crumbling joint flanges by the back axle. I think the spec for the flanges is the same as a Cadbury's Flake as I have been watching it crumble over the last couple of years. It was certainly the crumbliest and flakiest flanges I have seen. the pipes were good so ground the old flanges off and fitted two new weld on flanges to make good. Also used stainless bolts and stand off inserts for the hangers. Then put a new fuel filter on and started to change the timing and auxilary belts.

Finished changing the timing and auxilary belts. Surprised how much easier it is to work on the P2 2.0 lt petrol than my old P1 2.0 lt. There is so much more room around things. The auxilary belt tensioner was very much on the way out and was extremely wobbly compared with the new one, so changed just in time. Then changed the engine oil and filter and used Wurth engine flush. She now runs nice and sweet.

I sat in a drive thru queue earlier and there was some steam, then quite a lot more steam, then the vast majority of the cooling system contents on the floor, limped over the road to the petrol station with the heaters on full and topped up with evian to get home, that'll teach me for just using water after I did the oil cooler at the start of the week just to tide me over until payday. Straight to a car place on the way home and bought the proper coolant / anti freeze (pink one) dumped the contents of the system after it had cooled down and put the right stuff in, and now the car blows blue smoke out of the exhaust permanently if it's on fast idle once up to temp, I haven't driven it yet, maybe the 5w30 I put in at the start of the week is a little too thin when hot, time will tell.

Been for a drive since my last comment and it's not smoking at revs anymore, I should also add that the filler cap hadn't been done up properly so that'll almost certainly be why it boiled.

Hopefully no permanent damage, particularly after all the work you have put into it.

My S40 had its MOT on Monday, and passed first time, although with a few advisories.
I'm going to change the engine oil, in order to cure the dreaded vvt noise. Mines only started doing it, but it's very weird it's not doing it all the time.

Fitted two new front struts and trackrod ends today.
I put Bilstein B4 shocks on several years ago and whilst it made the car handle as if on rails it also made the ride much stiffer. Recently I have noticed the front end was quite bouncy to the point that I no longer like the ride. So have now swapped the Bilsteins for Monroe Original shocks that are the exact original spec and hopefully will restore the compliant ride. I also fitted new Meyle trackrod ends - the boots had started to perish so time to change. Will check and adjust the tracking tomorrow. Have ordered new front disks and pads as the old disks are getting quite thin - not down to minimum thickness, but near. Once the disks are on, next is to change the brake fluid, this will complete the mechanical servicing. All that will remain will be to replace the final bits of trim and then clay and polish the paintwork and valet the interior.
