2 stroke or not 2 stroke?
I've looked at a few threads and topics on the mineral and semi synthetic 2 stroke oils to add to diesel for DPF V70's, I came across Lucas semi-synthetic 2cycle oil smokeless/Low ash meets ISO GD and JASO FC & FD and exceeds API TC, blue in colour, has anyone tried this with good results as I added 100ml to 20 litres of fresh diesel and there was around 10 litres or so already in.
Ran it at 60mph for 40 miles, can't say I've noticed a difference, but it certainly hasn't caused any upsets at the moment. Cheers

I've heard of people using it but what are you looking to achieve with it?

Lubrication of the pump and injectors and cleaner burn so the DPF regenerates less often as I'm using this barge for town driving mostly. Many V70 D5 owners with DPF's have posted they have noticed that there is better bottom end power and less engine rattle, reduced piston slap as one person posted. Can't be all that bad....

I don't have a dpf so no worries on that front but I could see how 2 stroke might reduce injector knock.
It would be interesting to see comparative data from Vida to see if it really does reduce the number of regenerations.

It certainly would be interesting, need to get a local specialist to get it on diagnostics and check the car over and update where ever necessary, its the first V70 for me only issues I have regarding the drive is clonking noises from front and sometimes rear either when turning or coming off a speed hump. The car was last service in Apr 2015 at a cost of £1100, last owner had it from new and had it serviced from same dealership every year and when it needed repairs, and from that last service it's only travelled 5000 miles.

I tried it and it seemed to make the motor run smoother. How much of that was placebo I don't know but I fell out of the habit fairly easily.

Quote:
Diesel fuel used to contain trace amounts of sulphur which oil refining did not remove from the fraction used for diesel. Over the last few years this has been gradually reduced to practically zero by chemical capture and the product sold as "City Diesel" Sulphur was on of the main lubricating agents for the pump , so its removal has led to some pump failures. Not sure if this is an issue with Volvos or not , but the Nissan 4x4s and others seemed to suffer quite badly. I can't find any logical reason for any of the other improvements claimed, but I doubt it does any harm to the engine and the ancillaries.

The thing is our d5s can do massive mileages without adding 2 stroke. What are the long term effects. What about carbon build up, sticking of piston rings, injectors Ect? I have heard or people putting a litre to a tank of diesel and reported it made the engine run smoother as others have said. But in X thousands of miles time will components of the engine start to fail due to carboning or sticking. Unburnt 2 stroke is a sticky mess. They weren't designed for 2 stroke librication after all?
