V8 voltage regulator
As some will know, my XC90 found itself on a flatbed just after Christmas with a suspected duff voltage regulator.
Since then I've had it plugged in and from the looks of things on Vida, this seems to be the case. I had planned on getting this done by a trusted indy, but as it is now, I can't drive it more than a few miles before everything starts shutting down, so it looks like I'm going to have to wave the spanners at it myself. So... Could anyone point me in the right direction to buy the part, that isn't a Volvo dealer? (I'm northern and tight) Car's a '57 plate V8 Exec. So 2008 I think. Cheers, Steve

Alternator wrestling...
Been at it all day. Alternator physically unbolted, but I'm fecked if I can figure out how it comes out of the gap. Two metal fuel lines in the way and I'd had enough of swearing and launching things across the drive. Thought it best to throw in the towel for the day before I really lost my rag and did some proper damage.

Does the whole alternator need to be removed or can the regulator be replaced while still (loosely) in the vehicle? What does VIDA say on the matter?

Heat to get the driveshaft out of the hub.
Was stuck so hard, I mushroomed a 1/2" socket extension I hit it so hard. The socket on the end of said bar used as a drift is now there for good! Quote:
Massive pain to do on the V8 with zero access. It's located underneath a bank of cylinders against the bulkhead. Only access is from underneath. Quote:
Plus lots of swearing.

Isn't it a simple 3-step process?
1. Remove engine 2. Replace alternator 3. Reassemble in reverse order (gotta love concise instructions... )
