That fluid could be from the main gearbox mounting under the battery tray, my upper engine mount (cambelt side) went a year ago and apart from the god awful stink the fluid looked a bit like that although oddly seemed to evaporate. My fluid kinda left brown streaks behind.

Update on this.

Took the car to the garage yesterday to diagnose the coolant loss as I couldn't work it out.

Apparently there is a 3 way hose behind the engine that is leaking, however they couldn't get the part in for a few days so I told them to leave it.

Does anyone know what hose this is? I can't find any 3 way hoses on VIDA?

They also mentioned my engine breather system is blocked, joy, more bills. I'm assuming this will be the oil diaphragm that will need replacing.

I definitely need a new clutch too, DMF is rattling like mad and needs replacing.

Yikes, sounds like you are on the similar path as I am (clutch replacement). Any ideas what your approach will be, yet? (uprated part or OEM or cheapestpossible ?).

engine breather = PCV ? every T5 goes trough this, sadly :/ 31338685 was pn that I had replaced, if thats any help.

Just to update on this.

Got quoted £600 by that 'Volvo Specialist' to sort coolant and oil leak...What a laugh!

So I ended up doing a 70 mile round trip to my Uncle at Volvo and let him take care of it.

- Coolant hose sorted with new Volvo coolant
- Oil diaphragm updated with new revision model and 10W40 oil
- Both engine mounts ****ed - Replaced, was expecting this as engine was knocking on gear change

I have my MOT next month so asked him while he had it up there to check it over. Things I wasn't expecting him to report back...

- Control arms on both sides need replacing
- My 1.5 year/10k mile front tyres need replacing already
- CV boot needs replacing as it's leaking grease everywhere
- Intercooler brackets were missing for some reason

The good news is my clutch and DMF are fine, the rattle I was getting at idle that went away with the clutch engaged was the intercooler rattling, dipping the clutch must have tightened any slack in the drive train that was causing it to vibrate. It'll be getting an S60R clutch and block mod in a few months regardless before a remap.

I'm just shy of £1000 down all in. The frighting thing is that's with my discount, parts at cost price to them + 5% and 56% off labour!!

Ho hum!

Bugger!

Control arms, well at this stage you could consider polybushing the rear bushes or just fit new arms entirely.
If your CV boot is shagged, it's quite likely that your driveshaft will need replacing before long as you can't get the CV joints as a separate part, see how you get on with just the boot being replaced, might last months, might not!

Hoping the driveshaft is fine.

Not sure where to get the boots from. Volvo want a lot even with discount, I noticed on Skandix the Volvo ones are FordMoCo stamped so assuming I can just buy Focus ST ones as they'll be the same part.

Pics of engine mount and CV boot

I've had a couple of boots go on mine, the volvo ones are about £80.00

Normally if you catch it early enough and re-pack with grease it'll be fine.

Also; you used 10W/40 oil? this is not the correct grade for the T5, it should be either 5W/30 or 0W/30 fully-syn.

Volvo spec this yes, speak to anyone with any experience with building a T5 though and they say it's far too thin. Tim Williams alone rebuilt 13 T5 bottom ends last year due 30 weighted oil.

More on this here which I posted on in error.

https://www.volvoforums.org.uk/showt...=285283&page=2

It is at the end of the day personal preference but when asking tuners about oil I was just quoted the price a new engine fully fitted as that's where I'd end up if I kept running any 30 grade oil - It's enough to scare me off so 10W40 it is.

Will read up on 10/40...

Out of interest, where will you get the block mod done FunkyMelon and what sort of cost is that likely to be?

Chap called Tim Williams is your best bet. Most high power Volvo/Focus ST/Focus RS guys use him for engine stuff.

Best point of contact is either T5D5 or Facebook.
