Yes, there is almost no pressure in the petrol rail above the injectors. It should spurt out right? I had somebody turn the car over whilst pressing in on the valve, and I got the tiniest wetness, not even what you could call a dribble of gas. That's surely a sign that the lack of ignition is caused by fuel starvation, right? So, fuel pump fuse? fuel pump? broken fuel guage (and low/ no fuel) or clogged fuel filter? Anything else to consider? Thanks Lucas |

OK, so I replaced the fuel filter which was from new, and as the car has done 105K miles, it's at it's correct service interval anyway.
What it has shown me, I think, is that fuel supply is not the issue as there was renewed pressure in the fuel rail. Lack of sparks is the issue then. My fault code machine only works partially, because the car won't start, so a lot of the modules get a "no connection" result. Not helpful. I did get an ABS fault, where it was failing to connect with the EMU. Could this be the problem? Does an ABS unit disable the engine electrical system if it has a fault or failure to communicate with the EMU? Thanks again in advance. |

ABS-0100
Communication between control modules. Communication problems with the engine control module (ECM) DTC Status: Present. So, I photographed the page, and then cleared the fault code, but I still have an engine symbol lit up on the dash, and no sparks. |

Yeah, I did that and they all seem to suggest you have to remove it to test it. I wonder if there's a bunch of stuff to assess before doing that. Sorry I realise that it's a bit much what I'm asking, trying to get an internet forum to analyse my broken car for me. Thanks anyway.

Thanks for all of your help.
The problem is resolved with the help of me upgrading my Automobile Association membership to include "Home Start". Within an hour, the AA man came, and was an absolute legend! After lots of tests, we realised that the fuel pressure was insufficient. The fuel pump is temperamental it seems, as we got the car going with a few bangs on the petrol tank whilst cranking the engine. The vibration of the banging alone was enough to dislodge it from its stuck position and get it spinning again. I guess 105,000 miles of constant spinning and pumping got the measure of it in the end! A new fuel pump is the solution. Thanks to all for your input! |
