Thank you for all your replies. Much appreciated. Can I just ask northNH – my car is a 1968 1800S. The tyres on it are 185/65/R15s. So would that give me 19mph or 21mph in overdrive per 1000rpm?
My point about the 30 posts is this. I received a very nice private message from a forum member. I spent quite a while composing a lengthy reply to him. As I tried to send it all I got was a message saying I could not send a private message without having done 30 posts - and my carefully composed message just vanished!!! As there was no pre-warning of this, I had wasted my time composing a reply - and it looks like you are being ignorant if you don’t respond!! So what are you supposed to do? |

I also am generally unable to post in answer to other people’s queries because when it comes to mechanics I admit I am a bit clueless! |

The system is a reaction to a minority who are up to no good. As is often the case the majority ends up footing the bill!
It won't be long before your post count increases and this problem will be gone - in the mean time I reckon asking the site owners / moderators for lack-of-posting-clemency might be a way forward. Using the "@" symbol with the username of the person who contacted you to make them aware of this thread and your troubles might invoke a "mention" which on some forums gets a message to the other forum member saying that someone is talking about you (usually used in a positive way) I guess - though I'm not sure - if you were to join the club (that runs this website) the virgin messaging restrictions are not enforced.

Well I'd certainly contact the authorities about that because when you're a club member (rather than just joining in on the forum) there's usually a "VOC member" label under your user name. I'm guessing being a VOC Member will help the trouble (as in all animals are equal it is just some animals are more equal)
