Question Premature Bolster Wear on SPA Cars

Hi Guys,

As per title, has anyone noticed the side and base bolster on the entry side of the seat to become prematurely worn?

I noticed it on the XC60 I had and the XC90 I'm in now, one Inscription and one R-Design so different seats (but both leather).

On the drivers seat on both the bolster on the base and the bolster on the seat back have signs of premature wear on the entry side where you get in and out.

Considering I've seen it on both the cars I've had so far was wondering if its a common thing. Dr Leather wipes seems to "clean it up" but not as much as I'd like really.

Anyone else noticed their leather seems to wear a bit too quickly?

Thanks

Yes to my Momentum Pro Nappa leather (only the driver's side).

Interested to know how to deal with it, if necessary?

I'm not sure how widespread it is, I noticed it on both the Volvo's I've had so far with different style leather seats.

Only on the highest wear bolster though which is the drivers entry bolster (side & base) - the passenger bolsters look a lot better as they get a lot less use.

Don't worry...or at least not that much. It's not only yours. Mine also...but just like you wrote only on my side, drivers entry bolster (side and base). But in my case it's not that much...only slightly. My car has 5 months.

Will take some pictures tomorrow before I use Dr Leather Wipes and after. I've noted it with the service department at my dealer so if it does become a problem they've got a record of me mentioning it early.

Not noticed any seat wear on my V90 but after 3 months my drivers floor mat has worn right through.

Hi CoopsSA,

Is it a leather seat?

Maybe they use different leather on the V90 and S90?

Will take a picture on mine, its definitely not bad but you know with wear like this at 3/4 months its going to be really bad in 3 years!

Thanks

I have leather and alcantara on my R Design. Well I say leather but it's just leather effect, no mainstream manufacturers actually use leather but that's another debate entirely.

I've not noticed any particular wear but would welcome seeing your seat.

RD seats are actual perforated nappa leather- not the fake stuff.. Sides are leatherette (same with all manufacturers.. no one puts real leather on the side trim of the seats..) as well as door trim.

On topic- standard RD seats here, 1.5 yr/35K kms in and no signs of wear whatsoever. I clean them every other month or so (hot water and microfiber cloth..) + feed the leather bits with Sonax leather care foam..

There is a known issue with some of the XC90 seats. My 2016 drivers seat bolster was replaced under warranty at approximately 15,000 miles due to premature wear. The new bolster has a slightly different stitching design.
