Default V90 / XC90 rear seat entertainment

The 7" media player offered by Volvo seems both overpriced, and looks terrible
Almost a retrograde step back to what things were 10 - 15 years ago

Has anyone fitted an alternative system in their XC90 / V90?

My children are of an age where all they need at present is DVD - iPad holders are some years off

I'm in the process of speccing a new XC90, coming from a 2012 with RSE.

Did you find an alternative?

Thanks,
Lee

The only alternative I found was a "Rosen" system
It's shown in an XC90 in a YouTube video

Even fitted though it didn't look as "integrated" as I'd hoped

So to date I haven't yet committed to anything and still have the portable DVD player hanging off the headrest on webbing straps - not very modern or integrated at all!

It seems the manufacturers are thinking ipads are the future and are either deleting their RSE or making it look like it's from the early noughties - all clanky and non integrated.

True that technology is changing, and the physical DVD is loosing ground to the "streaming" school of thought

It's a shame. The system in the old XC90 is not perfect, but the integration of the screens into the headrests is really good.

I installed a small media player into the centre console so we don't use DVDs anymore, I just load up a USB stick.

The Volvo solution for the new XC90 is shown here, and it's a bit hacky looking: https://www.motortrend.ca/en/news/20...r-seat-review/

Hacky looking for sure!

I think it's a result of the seat / headrest design. Nothing is going to look integrated unless the headrest design was significantly different

Which is a shame, as to achieve what Volvo want for seat function and form, they have sacrificed a growing demand for RSE and for it to integrate with the car as customers would want

As you say with USB and streaming, the times are a changing.

I suppose they held a focus group which showed kids want to hold the ipad in their hands to touch / swipe rather than it being mounted in front of them - clearly Volvo didn't put much thought into the headrest mount for either DVD or ipad - it looks like an afterthought - and an ugly one at that
