Default Seatbelt reminder relay, randomly turns on

Hi all,

I hope you had a good Christmas.

I’m having an issue with my Volvo S40 first gen.
I just had a trip of 1200km, and I need to go back still. But during this trip, very randomly, my relay of the seatbelt reminder suddenly started to turn on for a bit.
After experiencing this issue, it keeps coming back. Sometimes when I only touch my blinker, not even making a full signal yet, I’ll go off for a second or two.
It also appears very randomly sometimes when I’m driving, it will go on for a second as well. I tried to make sure it is not the seatbelt sensor. But the light is not going on and off, so it has to do something with the relay I think. I just removed the relay (see pictures), looked at the contact etc, looks fine.
When I’m home in two weeks I can order new parts. But for now, what you think the issue is, and is there a few to disable it for now? Unplug a wire or a fuse?

Any advise is welcome, thank you!

Attached few pictures of the flasher relay I removed.

Update 27.12.2018: replaced the relay, that was not the issue!

Sorry - are you saying the seat belt light on your dash lights up intermittently or your are getting the clicky noise = like a seat belt reminder or indicator noise?

Thank you for your reply.
When it happens, my seatbelt is already plugged in. And the light on the roof does not light up. It’s only the sound that I hear. Whenever I put on the blinker when it happens, it slows down and when the blinker is off, it will pick up in speed again. This is why I thing somehow the blinker and seatbelt reminder sounds are combined in one relay. For now it is not a safety issue, but you really annoying to listen to. Maybe my next step is changing the turn signal lever.

Best regards,
Jochem

I'm still a little confused about what is happening.

If you use your indicator and the clicky noise is double clicking - its normally a bulb needs changing.

If the clicking noise is just happening intemitently as you drive - them I would hazard your seatbelt sensor may need attention.

PS I,m no expert - just trying to be helpful - but its hard to diagnose without seeing it :-)
I expect one of the other folk on here has a better idea than me

Appreciate it!
Later today I’ll make a video, so everyone can clearly see what the problem is!

Hi. I had this on my 2004 ph2 and it was a faulty relay. Was the one you changed a new replacement?
Other thought is check the hazard switch.

On way to airport this morning, as it was a bit cold thought an intermittent chime was a temperature alert, it chimed a few more of times. Then nearer end of trip, it came on quite a bit, so buckle issue, loose wire or relay (if so where is it located, number of same?)

The chime is used for many many things, it is not just seatbelt.

So pay a closer look at the dash when the chime goes off and see if any other lights or messages are appearing

Seat belt light on, remember had a small but heavy bag on passenger seat. No messages on system.
