Default DIM not displaying proper engine temp

Hi,
Strange thing has started happening. Car starts up normally, car behaves normally, car warms up and idles nicely at 650 as per usual once warm but the DIM read-out for engine temp shows as all the way to the left (i.e. totally cold). Then about 10min into ride, it pops up to middle and stays at middle for rest of ride. It has only happened twice so far and both times have been from cold start in cold weather -7degC (not sure if that is relevant or not).

The fact that it does not gradually go up to middle leads me to believe it's a communication thing vs. an actual cold engine.

Has anyone experienced this...is this the start up doom and gloom with my DIM?

On my P1 V70 I had the same as you describe.....new ECT sensor fitted and all sorted. Worth a punt as they are cheap enough to replace.
