Had a quick look at the passenger side footwell light today. It's been unplugged, so maybe that's the lock I should be paying attention to.

On a separate issue, I bought and tailgate wiper mechanism off ebay. I had an hour or so to spare this morning, so I fitted it. It gave one cycle then stopped. Power is there, but it just won't work. I can hear something clicking at intervals at the back, but nothing else.
This car is really starting to frustrate now. No car before has resisted my attempts to fix it like this one.

Here we are again.
I've got the footwell and door edge lights working correctly on both doors now.
They come on correctly, and go off correctly without having to slam the doors hard.
But, the overhead courtesy lights still stay on with the switch in the courtesy light position. I'm at the limit of my knowledge now. I did buy another complete panel, but unfortunately, it's slightly different and does not work.
On my courtesy light panel, the symbols are printed on the switches, on the panel I bought, they're printed on the panel itself. It never occurred to me that Volvo would change the design of the panel.
I don't know what else to do really, short of buying yet another correct panel, so if anyone has one for sale the same as mine, with the symbols printed on the switches, I'd be happy to discuss a sale with you.
Any further advice will be welcome, because I'm a tad stumped now.
Oh, by the way, I finally got the rear wiper working. I'm just waiting on the wiper arm now, should be here today.

Hi

I have one but it has printing on the panel, not the switches.
If I look at the underside I can see Volvo part number 9169500

https://www.ebay.com/p/Overhead-Inte...850/1123984617

I am pretty sure it came from a 1998 V70 with a sunroof.

What part number is on yours?

This is on ebay at the moment

Does it actually stay on long term? The interior light on mine comes on when I remove the key from the ignition but goes out when I lock the car.

Steve, I'll whip the panel out tomorrow and have a look at the part number, which I should have done a while ago really.

Dave NP. The courtesy lights are supposed to stay on for 30 seconds I think??, unless the ignition is switched on or the car is locked.
Mine stay on all the time, but sometimes when I switch them on manually, only one will come on, sometimes two, which makes me question the courtesy light panel itself. I'm probably wrong and it's something to do with the locks/microswitches. All confidence in getting it fixed has gone now, but at least I've triumphed over the rear wiper

The grumpy old man in me asks what was wrong with the plunger type switch in the door post that turned the light on when the door was open and off when it closed? All cars these days have switches in the door locks and delay timers and ignition interlinks, lovely when they're working but a nightmare when they play up. Worst one I have come across so far was a Volvo truck that I drove which had the radio interlinked to the doors, presumably so that you couldn't sit there with the radio on full blast and the door open annoying the neighbours. It went wrong so that the radio would only work with the door open and as it was all linked back to the central computer the mechanics diagnosis was 'It's brain's ####ed, it'll have to have a new one'. No idea what it cost the firm to have a new computer fitted just so I could listen to Terry Wogan.

DaveNP, you don't do supermarket deliveries, do you?
All our Merc Axors have a radio cut out when the door is opened. It's for 'noise sensitive' stores, and we have quite a few of those.

Another point about my door locking. On the rare occasions when I manage to lock the car from the fob ( I think I have a dodgy lock button on the fob), the indicators don't flash, and the red alarm light on the dash doesn't flash, yet when I unlock it from the fob, the indicators give two flashes. Shrug shoulders.

Right, having completed my Sunday duty of pushing a trolley round Tescos, I whipped the overhead light panel off.
The part number is T 9178 827

Interesting development actually, the lights won't work on with the switch in the courtesy light position at all now. Hmmm,

Have you tried soaking it with copious amounts of contact cleaner and working the switches? Just be sure to leave it dry out for a few minutes before replacing.

Yep, done that.
May do it again though, and give it a real proper soaking this time.
Nothing to lose, only my marbles.
