Don't think this one will go down well.

Interesting, personally I have no issue with it. I expect some Germans might but then German roads have much higher death rates than our. Is it because they drive Audis or because ours have holes everywhere?

It's the future, embrace it. The EU also has advanced plans to control all vehicles via GPS with regards to speed anyway, the days of being able to go out and put your foot down are nearly at an end. Long live the EU.

No, I'm not sure it will either. In all fairness, how many Volvo drivers in he UK try to exceed this speed? Can't imagine it going down too well in Germany though, at least while they still have derestricted autobahn.

A controlling step too far by Volvo perhaps.

While speed may be a factor in road deaths, I do wonder how often it is speed in excess of 110mph.

JLR have been doing it for years.

I recall that my 2007 Discovery 3 was electronically limited to 112 mph.

Didn't seem to affect the sales figures.

But I think the difference here is that the above article suggests that Volvo will do this to all models across the board. Whereas your Disco was limited to 112 for that particular model.

Volvo are open that the 180kph limit is a move to spark the debate rather than an answer to the problem of speed related deaths/injuries. Further down the line we may see geofencing limits that will have a significant impact on our approach to driving and a greater safety payback. "Disruptive" technology such as that would require drivers to have a very different mindset!

112mph seriously won't change anything with respect to speed related deaths. That's still allowing the UK drivers to drive 42mph over motorway speed limit.

I agree. A 112mph limit is a bit of a chocolate fireguard and has little real-world value.

I think it's more a message in-keeping with the current Volvo branding which pushes comfort and safety.

The fastest I drive is 140kph, ten over the limit in France. Why would I need to go faster?
