Default Cam belt question

Hi all,

I'm never sure if I've posted in the right place so here's hoping.
On Friday I'm having a new cam belt kit fitted and a water pump, I'm also having a new auxiliary belt at the same time. The car is a 2007 facelift D5 SE Sport and has only covered 40K but as it's coming up to 9 years old I don't want to take any chances.
My question is, does anything else need replacing at the same time? It's not being done by a main dealer but by a Jaguar specialist who's very familiar with the Volvo engine, he's also a friend so I know he'll do it properly. I seem to remember talk of an idler that can cause damage if not replaced, or is that the cam belt idler?

Thanks in advance

Phil

If the water pump is the original Volvo one, leave it alone and save your money as they are generally good for 250k+ miles.
I inspected mine when I changed my belt last year and it felt like it was brand new.

From what I've seen from other posts, recommendations are cambelt with tensioner and idler, and aux belt with tensioner and idler.

My Volvo indy also said no need to do water pump as they are bullet proof.

That's great, thanks for the info. The water pump is original so I'll leave that alone if that's the general consensus. And I seem to recall reading that the Aux tensioner and idler can cause real problems so I'll definitely have them changed.

Thanks again

Aux belt + tensioner
Timing belt + tensioner
Possibly the stretch belt serving the air con etc.

Think they all have to come off so may as well replace them!

All done today for £160, more than happy with that. The mechanic said the auxiliary idler had been replaced already, I seem to remember something about it being done when I bought it last year. So it's had a cam belt kit and an auxiliary belt, he also said the water pump looked and felt like new so maybe that was replaced before, no way of telling really but I'm just glad I've got it all done.

Thanks again for helpful info!
