Default V70 T6 281hp advice

Hi Guys,

I currently own a P2.5 D5 (185) SE.

Looking to change 'up' (down?) for a 2008 T6 AWD SE.

What's the P3 like? How do the seats compare? P2 seats have to be the most comfortable I've ever used.

Does the T6 have a timing belt? Is it chain or gear driven if not?

What's the reliability like on the T6? I've not really had any issues with my V70, but we've only covered around 12,000 together in a year. Although most of that has been at 60 - 65 mph on the motorway (averaging a calculated 45mpg!).

Which leads me on to the fuel consumption... how ruinously bad is it? I'm wanting to do more short journeys and have less 'DPF anxiety'.

Any thoughts?

Cheers!

I've struggled with the seat in my V70. Not as comfy as the seat in my previous V40 but still very comfortable. I have done 3-4 day drives to Italy in it twice with no issues.

The only thing I've seen bad about the T6 is high temps causing head gasket issues, but that was relating to Police vehicles which get hammered.

Economy all depends how hard you press the lead pedal but I would expect mid 20's, maybe low 30's on a motorway run.

HG issues – I guess there's absolutely no way to tell if it's on it's way out beyond bubbles in the expansion tank? No tell-tale smells during test drives? Any sounds?

Are you quite tall? I'm around 5ft 10/11 and the P2 seat really is amazing. If the P3 seats sucks, that's pretty much an instant deal breaker.

I'm a pretty sedate driver – cruise at 60 - 65 on motorway. Only really 'make progress' up to the speed limit. More than happy to chill. I was maybe hoping for 30 - 35 mpg on a run...?

I run 2 V70 Volvos a 2015 D5 and an 2004 AWD R. There is NO comparision in the seats. The P2 is soooo comfortable. The P3 is not uncomfortable mind you, but you sit ON a P3 seat you sit IN a P2 - and the neat front kangaroo pouch is missing from the P3. and the P3 seat appears physically slightly smaller.
Everything in the P3 is lighter too, steering, clutch, gear change, you don't get as involved somehow. P3 does ride much better - even accounting for wheel dia., and is a lot quieter too.

If both my cars were available brand new which would I buy??, the R or even a T5 in a heart beat as a P2. If I could get a P3 R or T5 (with manual box) it would be a much much harder choice.

Cheers

Bob

My P3 has pouch on the seat squab.

I can't say I notice much difference in terms of the seat comfort. The biggest thing is the vehicle height - the P2 was noticeably lower to the ground: even on a regular P3 (not XC) it s much easier to get in and out of.

Default Seat comfort

We're all different shapes & sizes, but my vote from the less vertically challenged jury. Having owned P1 V70, P2 V70, P2 XC70 & P3 V70, I'd say they are all comfortable cars with the P2 V70 at the bottom of the league table, P2 XC70 at the top closely followed by P1 & P3 V70.

Being able to find the ideal seat setting for you is the key!

Cheers all.

Sounds like it could be a classic horses for courses jobbie.

@100K+ when you say you sit on rather than in the seat, are the bolsters not as deep? Or is it something else?

What's the 6 speed box like on the T6? I guess it's probably quite lethargic, but must suit the car well? I've always loved manuals but it's increasingly frustrating to drive one on our congested roads.

Its an Aisin warner unit. Its fine. Smooth enough, change the oil on it regularly and it should be fine.

There was a case of the box not being able to handle the torque but I believe the change to the six speeder from the 5speeder fixed that.

I have to ask, why a T6 and not a smaller petrol. Its a lot of performance for someone who admit-ably won't crack on in the car. My mate had one and it was superb, he loved his T6 but he drove quite progressively to say the least.

I'm 5ft 9/10 and about 16st, some of that is fat and some is muscle from my days lifting weights as a youngster. As has been mentioned, it seems finding the ideal position is the key.

Just as I said. Perhaps as RM9551 says the fact that the P2 sits lower makes it feel you sit IN the seat rather than ON it.
I'm 6'3" so perhaps that makes a difference to perceptions too.

BTW gutted that my P3 don't have pouches...and mines a D5 SE Nav - so not base spec.

Cheers
