  • VOC Members: There is no login facility using your VOC membership number or the details from page 3 of the club magazine. You need to register in the normal way

Depends on which drain you use first.
If you open the radiator drain first, by the time that's done, the block drain will yield very little.
If you open the block drain first, it will seem like a worthwhile exercise.

An option is to use a pressure or vacuum method to drain and refil the system which also helps to prevent airlocks. Typically these connect into a compressor. If you have a wet and dry Hoover knocking around the workshop you could use it to suck or blow much of the remaining fluid from the system

Many thanks to all for their helpful comments and suggestions.

In the end I added 5.25 litres of concentrated Volvo Coolant to the water that remained in the system. In theory this should work out at 42% concentration which I think should be more than adequate for our climate. All seems well so far.
